The 911 engine features the classic Porsche flat-six configuration, which offers excellent cylinder charging, outstanding balance, optimum torque and minimal vibration. With the cylinders arranged horizontally in two banks of three, the engine has a lower centre of gravity than an in-line six and is a crucial ingredient in the classic 911 shape.
